A progress bar appears on the screen wh le boot ng up. It may take up to three m nutes to Set up IS9181 system complete th s process. 1. Alarm con and alarm t me 11:00 AM Battery con 9 10Remote control installation The battery is already installed in the remote control. However, you must remove the plast c tab before use (as shown to the r ght). Replace remote control battery Use a CR2025 l th um cell battery (sold separately) or equ valent to replace the remote control battery. To replace the battery: 1.Push and hold the tab on the battery compartment to the r ght and pull the compartment out of the remote control. 2.Remove the old battery and nsert a new CR2025 l th um cell battery or equ valent nto the battery compartment w th the pos t ve s de (+) fac ng up. 3. Push the battery compartment nto the remote control unt l t cl cks nto place. Installation Push CR2025 CR2025 Open Back of remote control OPEN Pos t ve s de (+) 2 3+Push 1 Pull Alarm In this menu, you can set the alarm time and turn it on and off. To set the alarm: 1.With the IS9181 turned on, press MENU. 2.Rotate the dial to highlight 3.4.5.6.7.8. Menu Alarm and press SELECT. To turn the alarm on, rotate the dial to highlight Set to ON and press SELECT. To set the alarm time, rotate the dial to highlight CHANGE and press SELECT. The Alarm Time screen appears. Rotate the dial to move the cursor between the hour, minute, and AM/PM positions. When the cursor is in the desired position, press SELECT. Rotate the dial up or down to change the time or to change between AM and PM, and press SELECT. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the time is correct. Rotate the dial to highlight DONE and press SELECT. A list of alarm sources appears. Rotate the dial to highlight the alarm source and press SELECT. The Alarm Volume screen appears. Press SELECT. The alarm clock must have AC power in order to work. You cannot adjust the alarm volume using the VOL + and VOL - keys; you must use the rotary dial. The volume for the alarm buzzer cannot be adjusted. 11 12Menu Alarm 9. Rotate the d al to adjust the volume of the rad o stat on and press SELECT. 10. Rotate the d al to h ghl ght DONE and press SELECT. Alarm Settings updated appears. When the alarm goes off, the selected alarm source plays cont nuously. If the selected source s Internet rad o or FM rad o, the last stat on that you l stened to plays and the stat on nformat on s shown on the bottom bar. If Internet rad o stat on s not ava lable, Buzzer s used nstead. To stop the buzzer: 11:08 AMWh le the alarm s sound ng, rotate the d al to h ghl ght STOP and press SELECT to stop the alarm buzzer. The rad o cont nues to play unt l you stop t by press ng , or STANDBY. To silence the alarm: Do any of the follow ng to snooze the alarm for 10 m nutes. •Press , , or . •Press STANDBY. The screen goes nto the snooze standby mode (the t me d splays n the center of the screen). • Press SELECT to snooze. You can snooze the alarm as many t mes as you want unt l you cancel snooze mode or stop the alarm. 11:08 AM Alarm OK SNOOZE SWR3 12:00 AM 1.Menu Alarm To cancel snooze: If the alarm s n snooze mode, rotate the d al to h ghl ght YES and press SELECT. Snoozing... If the alarm s n snooze standby mode (the t me d splays n the center of Cancel Snooze?the screen), press STANDBY. Rotate the d al to h ghl ght YES and press NO YES SELECT. Equalizer setting (only available on some models) The equalizer setting offers six different audio profiles to choose from when play ng the Internet Radio or My Music. Make sure you are play ng an Internet rad o stat on or My Music, then press MENU. 2.Rotate the d al to h ghl ght Equalizer Setting and press SELECT. Make sure the volume s above 15 to best hear the d fferences between equal zer sett ngs. 3.The current sett ng s shown and s play ng. When you rotate the d al to another sett ng, that sett ng w ll be appl ed to the mus c that s currently play ng. Rotate the d al to hear each sett ng. 11:08 AM Optimized Private Stream for Free Menu Now Playing Add to Favorites Alarm Equalizer Setting Screen Brightness Private Stream for Free Optimized is the current setting. Rotate dial to change setting. 13 •Menu Equalizer setting (only available on some models) 4. When you find a setting you like, press SELECT to save. The setting will be applied to both Internet Radio and My Music. NOTES: If you select equalizer setting without choosing a source first, you can change the setting but you hear no audio. •The audio profiles are set in the factory and cannot be changed. •The differences you hear between the equalizer settings will vary depending on the type of music you are playing. Screen brightness You can adjust the screen brightness to suit different lighting conditions. To change the brightness of the screen: 1.With the IS9181 turned on, press MENU. 2.Rotate the dial to highlight Screen Brightness and press SELECT. The current level of brightness appears on the screen. 3.Rotate the dial to adjust the level of brightness. When you adjust the level, the screen brightness changes accordingly. Screen Brightness High Medium 4.Press SELECT to confirm. Screen Brightness setting saved appears. Low 14 Menu Alarm Screen Brightness Wireless Network Clock Weather Settings Hip Hop Save Private Stream for Free Wireless network In th s menu, you can e ther allow the system to search for a w reless network, or enter the name of a known ava lable network. To connect to your w reless network: 1.W th the IS9181 turned on, press MENU. 2.Rotate the d al to h ghl ght Wireless Network and press SELECT. 3.Press SELECT to change. 4.To search for a w reless network automat cally, rotate the d al to h ghl ght Search for Network and press SELECT. 5. Any ava lable networks appear on the screen. Rotate the d al to h ghl ght your network and press SELECT. -OR- To enter the name of the network, rotate the d al to h ghl ght Enter Network Name and press SELECT. Rotate the d al to h ghl ght the character of the name of the network and press SELECT to add t to the entry l ne. Network names are case sens t ve. Menu Wireless network If you enter the network name manually, the next step s Select Security Type: to choose your secur ty type. None 6. If password protect on s not set on your network, move WEP64 / WEP128 WPA / WPA2 on to step 7. -OR- Rotate the d al to h ghl ght the character of the network password and press SELECT to add t to the entry l ne. You can select DELETE to erase the last character. Repeat character select on unt l the ent re password s d splayed. Rotate the d al to h ghl ght DONE and then press SELECT. 7. The IS9181 now attempts to connect to your w reless network (th s could take up to 1 m nute). Once connected, the menu screen appears and the IS9181 s ready to use. NOTES: If the IS9181 cannot find the network in one minute, an error message appears. The password for the w reless network s d fferent than the password for the router configuration utility. You can choose to set the clock manually or to have it automatically set by the Internet. To set the clock to be automatically set by the Internet: 1.With the IS9181 turned on, press MENU. 2.Rotate the dial to highlight 3. • Clock and press SELECT. Press SELECT to change. 4. Rotate the dial to highlight Auto (from Internet) and press SELECT. A list of time zones appears. 5. Rotate the dial to highlight your time zone and press SELECT. 6. If Daylight Saving is currently in effect, rotate the dial to highlight On and press SELECT. -OR- If Daylight Saving is currently not in effect, rotate dial to highlight Off and press SELECT. NOTE: Daylight saving time adjustments must be changed manually. After you have entered your zip or postal code, you can see the five day weather forecast for your area by pressing the WEATHER (called INFO on some models) key. To program the weather settings for your area: 1.With the IS9181 turned on, press MENU. 2.Rotate the dial to highlight 3. Weather Settings and press SELECT. Press SELECT to change. 4. Rotate the dial to highlight USA or Canada and press SELECT. Depending on which you choose, either the Enter ZIP Code or Enter Postal Code screen appears. 5. Rotate the dial to highlight the character of the zip code or postal code and press SELECT to add it to the entry line. You can select DELETE to erase the last character. Repeat the character selection until the entire zip code or postal code is displayed. Rotate the dial to highlight DONE and then press SELECT. Weather settings saved appears. Press BACK to return to the previous screen. Select CANCEL to go to the screen with the current settings for the weather. You need to know the web code of the IS9181 when adding a new radio station to the IS9181 through the VTech website (see page 23). To view the Product ID: 1.With the IS9181 turned on, press MENU. 2.Rotate the dial to highlight 3. • Product ID and press SELECT. To exit the screen, press SELECT. NOTE: The web code uses zero and one, not the capital letter “O” or “I”. You can search for and play Internet radio stations by browsing through the available categories. You may also search for radio stations using the VTech website (see page 23). Rotate the dial to highlight the desired browsing method and press SELECT. Drag the iTunes folder from the original user account music folder to the IS9181 account music folder. This will copy the music. If you do not have the room on your hard drive to copy the music, you can copy the music to an external hard drive. Then delete the music from your computer. Copy the music back to the computer on in the IS9181 music folder. 13. Open iTunes. 14. Open iTunes Preferences and select the Advanced tab. 15. Ensure that the Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library is selected. 16. Click Change next to iTunes Music folder location. 17. Create a path to the IS9181 account music folder and iTunes music will point to that folder. Now the IS9181 account houses all of your music. Any new music added in iTunes will show on the IS9181 after you select Update Computer list. You can use iTunes as normal and access all the content through the IS9181. Note, however, that external dr ves are not accessed unt l you phys cally (not remotely) log nto the Mac, so s mply turn ng on the computer s not enough to share the files, you must log in. You can now close the System Preferences. On the IS9181 go to My Mus c and select Update Computer L st and reconnect w th the des red Mac. Your mus c folder w ll now be ava lable and you can play all unprotected mus c that you may have n the folder you have chosen. Play music on your computer To play music stored on your computer: On your IS9181, press SOURCE. Rotate the dial to highlight My Music and press SELECT. Press SELECT to update computer list. The IS9181 searches and shows a list of computers on the same network as the IS9181. NOTE: Other devices connected to your network such as printers may show on the computer list. The IS9181 will automatically repeat all the songs that are in the folder you are playing from. The IS9181 can only play the files in one folder at a time. So if choose a folder of Beatles music with sub-folders of albums, the albums will not play. You must choose each album to play them. However, if all the Beatles songs are in one folder, you can play all the songs. The IS9181 cannot access playlists unless the songs are all in one folder together. NOTES: If you make any changes to your music files on your computer, select PC1 Shared Music ••• Update Computer list again. Press BACK to return to the previous screen. Press SOURCE to go back to the top source menu. If you are playing My Music and you change to another source, when you select My Music again the same file plays. If you have chosen My Music as your source and you press MENU, one additional item appear at the top of the menu: Now Playing - returns you to the My music playing screen. To connect the IS9181 to an external aud o system: Connect one end of aud o cables (RCA type, not ncluded) to the LINE OUT jacks on the back of the IS9181, match ng the cable colors. 2.Connect the other end of the cables to the respect ve aud o nput jacks on the external aud o system. 3.You can now play mus c from your IS9181 and l sten to t through the external aud o system. 62 You can nstall AA alkal ne or rechargeable batter es (sold separately) to use your IS9181 as a portable rad o. When powered by batter es, the IS9181 operates the same as when t s plugged nto an AC power outlet w th the follow ng except ons: •A battery con appears on the status bar at the top of the screen (see page 6). •The max mum speaker volume level s 25. • When the IS9181 goes nto standby mode, the IS9181 automat cally shuts down and the screen turns black after one m nute to save battery power (power save mode). Battery cover Optional battery installation • If you use AA rechargeable batter es, the IS9181 does not recharge the batter es. 63 •Optional battery installation •64The batter es do not ma nta n the clock sett ng. If your clock s set manually and the IS9181 loses power, then the sett ng s lost. We recommend you have the clock set by the Internet (see page 17), so when the power returns, the clock sett ng w ll be automat cally set by the Internet. The alarm clock does not work on battery power. The alarm clock must have AC power to work. Troubleshooting If you have difficulty operating your IS9181, please try the suggestions below. Check that they are entered exactly the same ( nclud ng cap tal zat on and spec al characters). • If the SSID Broadcast s turned OFF on certa n brands of w reless routers, the IS9181 w ll not be able to connect dur ng setup. Refer to your w reless router user’s manual for nstruct ons to turn ON the SSID Broadcast dur ng the IS9181 w reless network setup process. Once the IS9181 successfully connects to your w reless router, the SSID Broadcast can be turned OFF aga n. 65 66Troubleshooting Networking •Make sure your w reless router does not restr ct connect on by part cular MAC addresses (MAC filtering). Refer to you wireless router’s user manual for details. Remote control •Po nt the remote d rectly at the IS9181 d splay. •Check to make sure the remote control’s battery s properly nstalled. •Try replac ng the remote control’s battery. If the stat on plays on your computer, try to reset the IS9181 and reconnect to the stat on. •If you exper ence a slow response when brows ng the Internet rad o d rectory, buffer ng, or choppy aud o play.
